ArcReader is a free desktop application from Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (Esri) that allows anyone to view, explore, and print interactive maps created with the ArcGIS Publisher extension. It opens published map files (PMF) and provides straightforward tools to pan and zoom, toggle layers, identify features, search attributes, follow hyperlinks, take basic measurements, and produce high-quality prints. ArcReader does not support editing or advanced spatial analysis, making it a secure way to share authoritative GIS content with colleagues, field teams, and stakeholders who do not use full GIS software. It can display maps that reference local datasets or include packaged data, enabling organizations to distribute up-to-date cartography without exposing source files or requiring additional licenses.
